AMN's purpose is to help solo practitioners grow in their practice by connecting them with meditation communities in their area or online.

Benefits & Requirements

Any entity that practices group meditation in a community of equanimity, compassion and acceptance, regardless of gender, race, economic status, or sexual orientation[💬] are free to request to join the Alabama Meditation Network.

Benefits

  • Group name, logo, and link to informational website or social media on AMN website.
  • Promotion of member’s special events on AMN website.
  • Early registration access to AMP events (ie., retreats).

Applying

To be considered, all entities must abide by the requirements below. Application does not guarantee membership. Professional counselors, therapists or coaches will not be accepted unless they provide group meditation as a community according to our terms & definitions.[💬] Once the request is made, the group or community will be vetted by our Community Committee.

Guidelines

Each entity accepted into AMN must:

  1. Be located in Alabama.
  2. Use any form of present moment practice which has a foundation of body and breath awareness.
  3. Practice meditation as a group on a regular basis (at least once a month).
  4. Provides group meditation in a community of equanimity, compassion and acceptance, regardless of gender, race, economic status, or sexual orientation.
  5. Make an effort to make meetings accessible for those with physical disabilities.

Restrictions

  • Private 1-on-1 meditation instructors will not be accepted. However, private meditation instructors who also provide group meditation in a community according to our terms and definitions[💬] will be considered.
  • Paid meditation instructors will be considered as long as their professional services provide group meditation and community according to our terms and definitions[💬].
  • Requests from groups claiming exclusivity, ultimate authority, superiority or practice racism, violence or discrimination will be denied.

Retreat Cancellation Policy

Refunds will be available up to two weeks before the retreat.

Later cancelations receive a retreat credit.

In order to create a safe and welcoming meditation and learning environment, we ask everyone to:

  • Practice acceptance of everyone regardless of gender, race, economic status, or sexual orientation.
  • Cause no harm to others.
  • Refrain from:
    • Sexual misconduct
    • Negative speech
    • The use of drugs or alcohol.
